Dr. Lawrence is board certified by the
American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a Fellow of the
American College of Sports Medicine, American College of Surgeons,
Arthroscopy Association of North America, International Society of
Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, and
several other professional organizations. His areas of special
interest are sports medicine and knee and shoulder surgery. He is on
the medical staff of Centennial Medical Center, Williamson Medical
Center, Baptist Hospital and St. Thomas Hospital. He is also on the
medical staff of Centennial Surgery Center, Premier Orthopaedics and
Sports Medicine Surgery Center, Baptist Ambulatory Surgery Center
and Baptist Plaza Surgery Center.
Dr. Lawrence is a native Tennessean. He was born in Nashville and
grew up in Memphis. He attended Abilene Christian University in
Abilene, Texas on a football scholarship. After graduating summa cum
laude with a BA degree in Biology, he returned to his home state to
attend the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. After
receiving his medical degree, he completed a general surgery
internship and a five year orthopaedic surgery residency at the
University of Tennessee. He served one year as Chief Orthopaedic
Resident. He was a member of the Tennessee Army National Guard from
1985 to 1995.
He has served on the boards of the Arthritis Foundation, Youth
Encouragement Services, and Rise and Walk Ministry. He has been in
private practice in Nashville since 1989. He has assisted in the
care of many local high school and college athletes as well as
giving sports medicine aid and support to several local and national
sporting events.
Dr. Lawrence is married and has 3 children. He enjoys his family,
running, skiing, and medical missions. He and his family are
currently working in Guatemala to improve the medical care available
to the poor and hopefully start a home-based orphanage. One of his
goals in life is to be a good influence and have a positive impact
on his patients, family, and community – now and for eternity.
